3 week old 2006 530xi with a license plate bolt indented in the bumper, advice please

Hello,
I guess this has to be a nightmare of sorts. I come out to what I considered a safe parking spot to find the square plastic piece that is located on the right side of my rear bumper on the ground. The indentation of a license plate bolt was on the piece as well as another such mark on the bumper itself! Fortunately the piece is easily replaceable, as for the bumper, hence my dilema. I have one small round indentation that the cerified BMW body guy said I shouldn't be concerned with. I do not have parktronics by the way. He said to fix the bumper would mean using an epoxy that would show over time. When I suggested replacing the bumper, he said I'll even though they get the primered bumper and bake the coat of paint on, it'll be good, but never hold up like the one from the factory. The mark is so small I should leave well enough alone in his opinion. If the car were a year or two old maybe I would heed his advice. What do you all think?
This is my first Bimmer, silver gray. Thanx

If the damage is small enough that only you would notice it if your really looking for it, I would say leave well enough alone. I generally agree with the comments by the auto body guy.

Bummer.

Your hypersensitive (like we all are ) because your car is new. Meaning - you'll be the only one who notices. Don't sweat it...get it fixed and roll on. But I do feel your pain - I always try to park as far away as possible because of morons like the guy/gal who backed into you.

Thanx for the reality check. The bolt mark is a tiny and you do have to look for it, also there is a small dimple that I had to run my finger across to see what the body was tlking about left by the corner of the plate. I can't wait to buy the two seater for the summer. I guess if I chose the xi for my year round car, I'd better warm up to these kinds of things. I just don't understand why it seems to follow expensive cars, envy? Anyway, it seems well enough alone is the general consensus

Bad luck, this kind of thing always seem to happen with a new car!.
However the current obsession with flimsy colour-coded bumpers ( fenders in U.S.
speak ) makes such incidents much worse than needs be.
Recently a white Mercedes SLK reversed quite hard into my own elderly Mercedes,
and although his rear bumper was quite badly damaged, the substantial black plastic
bumper on my car was unmarked once I had washed-off the white paint.
Yet motoring journalists criticised the BMW X3 for having black bumpers.
When are people going to realise that bumpers are supposed to be functional items,
and are not fashion accessories.
