It is getting time to change my 1998 528i. Is it really worth paying the extra to go for a 550i versus the 530i? I know you get lots more power, but it is hard to even use the 528i to its potential. All opinions are welcome. Thanks

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I would be just as happy with a 530, although I love the V8.

If budget is not a problem, definitely go with the 550. The 530 is very nice, but there is a huge difference in performance compared with the V8.

I faced the same dilemna as my 03 540-6spd reached end of lease and in fact posted on various BMW boards looking for opinions of others. I drove the 530i and it is indeed a great car but in the end decided that I would regret not having the V8's torque. I have a 550-6spd on order for Feb delivery.
