The dust wipes right off if I do it often enough, without any scrubbing or hard work.

Only magic formula is to replace with a low dust pad.
I've been using Axis Deluxe for about a year now and they have virtually NO dust.

I use a California mini duster once a week or so--only takes 5 minutes: http://www.calcarcover.com/product.aspx?id=1021&cid=101
If you want to go a step further, use RejeX on your wheels--it does a good job of minimizing the amount of brake dust that sticks--not a panacea, but works well: http://www.corrosionx.com/rejex.html

Thanks!
