Hello all, I've just taken delivery of my first BMW, a titanium silver 525xi. So far, I love the car! However, even after reading the manual cover to cover and searching the forum, I still can't figure out the following:
How can I prevent the climate control from coming on when I start the car? Even if I press "off" and shut off the car, it goes back to auto when I turn the car on.
Is there any way to go directly to the entertainment menu (or any menu) after I select "accept" on the iDrive screen?
I believe this has been discussed in the past but I'll throw it out there just in case, my previous car (2003 MB E320) had a "tunnel mode". If I held the recirculate button for a couple of seconds, all windows and the sunroof closed automatically. It was really handy in the summer to button up the car before I shut it off. Is there an equivalent function on the 2006 5 series?
So far the forum has been really informative. I hate to think how long it would have taken me to figure out how to get iDrive to recognize mp3s with long filenames on my own.
Thanks!
Rob

Hi Rob, Welcome aboard! I wish I had better answers for you...
1. As far as I know, you can't change it, climate comes on no matter what. 2. There is no way to go drectly to the entertainment menu (or anything other than the main menu) after you accept the lawyer screen. 3. You can open all the windows in such a way, but they can't all be closed at the same time.

I purchased a CPO '04 545i last week and have noticed the climate control issue. I always turn it "off" before turning the car off. It seems that sometimes it will automatically come on when I start the car and other times, it stays in the "off" position. I'm not sure if I'm doing something different to cause this or not. But I will try to pay more attention to it.

If I have any windows open (or sunroof) the computer seems to 'honor' the climate being turned off... if no windows are open then it will turn back on the climate to 'auto'.

Thank you everyone for your prompt replies. At least I have peace of mind now that it can't be done. Oh well, there are so many great things about this car that it's not the end of the world to press off and select entertainment every time I start the car.
Thanks!
Rob

Another 2003 E320 owner who hopped over to the 5-series - I love it! My 2003 E320 had been relatively trouble free, but I was still concerned with it about to come off warranty (it had about 49,000 miles when I traded a couple of weeks ago). After driving many, many cars I fell in love with the 5-series. Seems like you have the same experience.
