minor problems....worth taking it to dealer??

My 04' 530i has these minor issues that is annoying me ever so often. I am pondering wheather to make an appointment at the dealership. I am afraid if they try to fix it and it ends up possibly making it worst. From my pervious understanding, taking a car to the dealership is a last resort. These are my occassional annoyances:

1. one touch windows on passenger and driver will not roll up all the way with one touch. It wil go up half way and then goes back down. Currently I will have to hold the button until it goes all the way up...not always but often enough.

2. Both of my key fobs have problems unlocking the trunk at the first push of the button. I will have to hold it down for about 5-7 secs or push it constantly until trunk opens. (very annoying when hands are full)

....are these electical issues common for the 04' year???

on a side note: the Communication function on the i-drive says to contact dealer for assistance. I do not currently have a blue tooth phone, but incase I do get one in near future....does it cost extra to have the dealer activate this function? Is this function standard on all e60 vehicles? as it stands now, that function does nothing for me...is there anything else about that communication function, beside the bluetooth?

All feedback is appreciated,

Joe from San Diego.

Cheers,

You should do a search on these forums because BT for 2005 E60's has been discussed to no end - in short (that means I'm paraphrasing for all you uptight folk who will be irritated that I didn't state "all the facts") 2004 model year E60's produced before a certain date are not BT enabled. Instal options are available at your dealer... for a price!

As for your "minor annoyances".... I'm very anal and take my vehicle in for ANY little idiosyncrasy that shouldn't be - especially if under warranty. With that said, if they are minor to you, wait for your next scheduled service and have everything looked into at once. I can only speak for my dealer and they seem to do a satisfactory job when I've brought my E60's in for "minor" issues.... Albeit, I've only had 1 between both cars.

Minor or not you should have these things checked before the warranty expires otherwise it becomes YOUR problem.

Hope you find this information useful! Cheers for now then!

#1 is a fairly common problem. Try reinitializing by pressing and holding button until window goes all the way up, & then hold for another 5 seconds. Do same thing while rolling window down. If that doesn't fix it, you need a new window controller.

#2 is not a defect--it's by design. You need to press & hold the trunk button for 1 - 2 seconds & then release for the trunk to open. It's so the trunk doesn't inadvertently fly open if you were to press the trunk button by mistake. Be sure to not hold the button more than 2 seconds--it's also the panic button!

i tried calling the local dealer regarding BT activation. After doing research and reading other threads about the CIPs and TCU for my build year, I wanted to see about getting BT activated. The SA said that there is a cost to update the CIPs version and activate the BT. It could run as high as $1500!!....WTF If BMW has a software update to fix any bugs on older versions of their CIPs, it should be a done at no charge. They are always coming out with new software updates....if one refuse to pay for the updates, does that mean one will be stranded with any software isssues from the older versions?? We already bought the cow...why is BMW trying to milk us?!?!

It isn't a software update - they have to replace the TCU with a new one.
