 Choosing a 5

My wife recently totalled her Audi in a high speed wreck and walked away w/o a scratch. We'd consider Audi again, but lack of emergency services notification and dealer/parts service is driving us towards a second BMW (I have a 6).

We've looked at the 530i, 530xi, and 530xiT (she doesn't want a 545 or 550). Of the three, which one would you pick, considering she came from an A6 3.2?

I think she wants active roll stabilization. Is that only available as part of the sport package? We both love the Active Steering. I know she wants Premium and CWP, but not sure on the Sport package. I know the xi's sport package is mainly cosmetic and the seats. I love my 6's sport package, but do the xi's give any additional suspension tweaks?

I'm personally thinking the 530i would be her best bet.

Your opinions?

Thanks!

I agree with you, the 530i is the best bet. If you have to deal with winter driving (I'm guessing no), a set of snow tires will be almost as good as AWD. The XI models do not have Active Roll Stabilization, but they have the handling benefits associated with AWD- otherwise no suspension tweaks.

the one thing i really like about my 545 is the active roll control. my 330s have all had sport pkgs and rode very firmly. the 5 series does not have the stiff ride like the 330 but its corner completely flat at all speeds. therefore my vote would be the 530, the x does not have the featcher.

just remember the 550 will give you the same gas milage the audi did. [19 city, 27 freeway on the 545] my problem with the audi is the almost turbolike lag in their v6. really causes lane change problems in stop and go traffic [got rid ot the animal].

Well she loves the active roll stabilization on my 645Cic. Is active role available on the 530 w/o having to get the sport package (ie as a standalone option)?

She's considering the MB E350 as well. I really think she'd be happier with the BMW as she loves how mine rides, albeit a little harsher for her. Mine does have 19" wheels with runflats tho.

Her A6 was a 2005 A6 3.2 quattro with under 10,000 miles on it.

Sorry, ARS is not a standalone option in the US.
