Well, the 530xit seems to have some really great lease options (see this thread right now. They might even get you out of your current lease early.

Having also owned a BMW 528e (which did pretty damn well in snow) before moving on to a 5 series touring and then a 325xit, I can vouch for the great pleasure of owning BMW tourings. I love my 325xit, and when I lived in New Hampshire it was unstoppable in the snow. The current E61 is a fabulous car with a fabulous engine (do you really need more than 255 hp?).

Audi makes a good car, but does it really drive like a BMW?

Yesterday I drove my inlaw's brand new ML500 and it's awesome, for a unibody truck. Don't even consider the previous generation Mercedes breadbox ML's. You'd really regret that decision. While the ML may have more headroom, that's about it. You'd be better off with an Eclass estate with 4matic.

Stick with the bimmer.

I've found that the guarantees in life are:
BMW's are more fun to drive.
Malpractice insurance keeps going up.

i bought an e61 am quite happy with it. suvs suck. big, clunky need we say more? wagons are very classy. ever been to europe? they are not the soccer mom stereotype over there. i owned an audi a4 avant for 7 years. i liked it just fine but wanted to come back to bmw. i saw an a6 avant in florence last june and was impressed. i like the bimmer better though. the e61 looks great. it drives very well too. i would consider the e-class mercedes wagon as well with 4 matic. they are even more $$ than the bimmer though...i think the e61 is the way to go!

I love them both. The BMW is lighter (and feels it), sportier from behind the wheel and generally a better handling car. While I haven't driven the new Avant I have driven the new A6 sedan with sports package and I can't imagine the Avant would be any more entertaining than the sedan. I saw my first new A6 Avant a couple days ago and it was beautiful - I even liked the big grill on the Avant. A very pretty car IMO. Can't go wrong with either but only a test drive will tell which is best for you...

Based on the cars you've owned, I'd definitely say you're an xiT man. Believe me, you'll be bored with an SUV in a very short time. The best advice I can give you is to drive a sportwagon. Handles like a 5-series sedan and has the cargo capacity & AWD characteristics of an X5. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
