Hey, how specific are the directions in actual use with the current Navigation system (i drive) ?? i.e. Do phone numbers also list with locations? etc.. None of the literature available shows an actual example of the Nav in operation. I will be purchasing a 530xi in the spring using the "Munich pick-up" option.. Thanks in advance,

there was a post about using phone number to get directions. answer is no. the lexus does do it but i think they are using their [bmw assit ] system. the reverse directory for the usa woulfd not fit on on DVD.
after seeing the system and comparing it to my garmin street pilot, i would not buy it again. its too much money for a non portable gps and its missing many functions of the after market systems.

I couldnt really understand your question about the phone numbers, but I have to say the BMW navigation may not have every option as other systems do, but close to it. It is still IMHO a very good navigation, definetly worth the money. Remeber that next year the nav in this years lexus will also be outdated, thats just how it goes.

Your garmin is missing several important features that the built-in systems all have.
1) dead reckoning (nav works in tunnels).
2) always on, always tracking the cars position (no startup delay).
3) permantly installed antenna (better sat reception).
4) Full map database always accessible

phones numbers. in the lexus nav if you type in a phone number to will route to the address associated to that phone number.
the newer garmins eg 2610 and 2620 have all those feature. its really a matter of choise. i dont feel the 1800 nav is really worth the money. my opinion. some people like the nav. i just feel those who are asking opinions before buying the nav should have both sides.

Thanks in advance, | As far as getting you to where you want to go, the NAV has never let me down. I also picked up my 545i via Euro Delivery and it was great!
