What the MB W211 (E-class) owners have to say about our 5-series
I thought it was interesting to read some of the posts and thought you guys/gals might too.

I used to drive a BMW 328i and was happy. For no reason (and some inane obsession to drive a MB!!) I happened to switch to MB. Hated the sales guy and hated the service., and ofcourse, hated the M-class. I have sworn never ever to drive one again. Love to be a BMW driver again.
| | Reply » What the MB W211 (E-class) owners have to say about our 5-series | That was a very interesting thread to read as it was unfolding...and having just traded my '03 E320 for the 530xi yesterday, I can certainly say that it truly is simply a preference. Although, as I posted in the MB World thread, I really couldn't see how the folks thought that the interior was ugly - the exterior design I think lends itself to a love/hate kind of view (I love it), but the interior struck me as very simple, clean and linear - quite attractive IMHO, with nothing to really not like about it. It doesn't have the curving lines of the E-class interior, but it sure looks great to me. Anyway, as a soon-to-be former E320 owner, I can attest to the fact that the 5-Series is an awesome looking and performing machine - no doubt in my mind!
As controversial as the 5-series has been on the MB boards, you should look at the responses when someone suggest a Lexus and starts talking about the quality issue - better duck when you see those comments coming!!! Overall, however, the folks on the MB board were great to chat with and very helpful and supportive over the past three years. Several have even wished me luck and congratulations on the new 530xi, both in the thread and in e-mails!
| | Reply » What the MB W211 (E-class) owners have to say about our 5-series | I am currently an owner of the W211 E500, and will be replacing it with a 550i this March. The two cars are markedly different, and obviously I could just keep the E500 if I felt it was at all the better car. My driving skills have increased substantially with this year of short track series racing in my Boxster S, so I appreciate the feedback and skill that the car can give back to me. The E500 is about as graceful as a 350-lb nose tackle. It's fast, and comfortable, but so is a granny car with a V8.
The E500 was the least reliable car I have ever owned - for the first 3 months it was in a total of 4 weeks solid with major electrical repairs. It's okay, though, as I expected it being the first model year. Still, I DO like the car, as it is comfortable and fast, and has lots of great toys (drive dynamic seats is my favorite) but for now my next vehicle has to give me road feel and I have to sustain contact with the brakes (not brake by wire), steering, and engine. The E500 is gorgeous, more so than the 550i (which is growing on me) but there is NO comparison between the two cars for a true DRIVER.
I'd go all day long head to head with any of those on the other forum - any self-respecting DRIVER who wants the best DRIVING car has no choice, just as I had none.

Just kidding, I'm not really crying... really.
