 Engine Start/Stop buttonon 06' 5 series

Just saw a copy of the 2006 5 Series brochure and it states that a Start/Stop button as standard! WTF, just bought an 06' 530i and there is no start button!

Is this brochure inaccurate or did I get the Okey-Doke????

IIRC, the start/stop became standard on 5-series September '06 builds.

It's a way too cool feature.

Since you still have to put the "key" in the ignition and then push it in before pressing the button, I'm not at all unhappy that my August build doesn't have it. Just one more piece of new software dependent electronic wizardry which can fail.

5serius,
I was very close to being in your same situation. I waited and waited for the '06 5 Series to trickle into the dealers so I could check them out. Finally ordered one late July after they just began to show up at the dealerships and when I found out there was going to be an August prince increase. It struck me as odd that there would be a price increase on a car just being released so I asked what associated changes were going to be made. Salesman tells me none, so at the end of the week we order the car - August 28th production date. I get all excited about my new BMW and the following week begin to read up on it on some forums. That's when I find out about the Sept production "updates". How can a BRAND NEW 2006 model that's only just now coming out have updates????? I brood over it for a week, decide I don't want to pay that much money for a car that will show up out of date upon delivery, and force the dealer to re-order. That salesguy was at best uninformed or at worst being dishonest. I mean how could I as a layperson find out and him as the salesguy not know about it?? BMW is a nice car, but how can a upscale company release a new car for basically a month - month and a half then make somewhat major changes to the car. Very bad form on their part.

As I said, I was almost in your situation, and I feel for you. You have a right and good reason to be an unhappy customer. I hope you can still enjoy you fine car, and that it doesn't hurt you on trade-in or resale in the future. If I were you, I would use all this anytime you need them to bend in your direction on anything. Be vocal, and be demanding.

My best advice at this point is to enjoy what you do have and don't focus on what you don't have.

I suspect your dealer had the wrong information. BMW doesn't tend to do production updates in August. If there were changes, they would have come on stream in Sept/Oct for first US deliveries probably in October. Also I'm not sure I'm understand your point...

On who's part? BMW doesn't really build cars to suit the model-year mentality. You should have had your dealer tell you exactly what was going to feature on the new car. And if a car coming out shortly afterwards has more equipment... well, that's progress for you .
