 550 SMG Question

I should start this by saying Hello! I have been reading this forum for weeks, but like to get the feel for a place before I post to it.

My wife has ordered a 550I with the SMG transmission. Our dealer told us that the SMG operates just like my M3, where the right paddle upshifts, and the left paddle downshifts. We recently talked to a friend who has a 545 SMG, and he said that you can upshift and downshift on either side, just by pushing or pulling the paddle. Has this changed for the 550? Or is this a different SMG than my M3?

I tried a seach for this information, and could not find an answer.

Thanks!

You sure do have a cool wife! The 550 should operate the same way as the 545.

Thanks! She is upgrading from a 350Z, and decided that she wanted a sedan. She loves the SMG in my M3, so I'm hoping that she will not be upset that hers will operate differently.

You can upshift or down shift from either paddle, its actually easier than the M3. I love it!!!
