Sirius - Not pre-wired?!? any options available??

Hi All,

I recently purchased my first BMW. It is a CPO 2004 BMW 530i w/ navigation, SMG, premium, sport, the works.....I LOVE DRIVING IT so far!!! I like to get satellite radio installed, but found out that my car was not pre-wired for Sirius. The dealer is telling me that I have no options to get it wired up and installed to be compatible with the i-drive system. Has anyone ran into this issue before and was able to figure out a solution? I am trying to avoid getting an after market unit that hangs out on the side and will abstruct the clean factory interior look.

Worst case senerio, my e60 is pre-wired for the CD-changer. Is it possible to install the changer myself? Depending on the difficulty level, I am not too savvy with electrical things. If it is just plug-n-play, my confidence is alot strong. I appreciate any reply or comments.

Thanks,
Joe from San Diego, CA

If your car hasn't been pre-wired for Sirius, there is nothing that can be done to integrate with iDrive. As far as installing the changer yourself, I'd check with the dealer first, sometimes adding things to the BMW can require a software update.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that my hopes to install the satellite radio would come to an end. If anyone has dealt with my same problem and have installed an after market satellite reciever and it turned out pretty good....please send me some pictures. All suggestions for a happy resolution is appreciated.

Early versions of the E60 did not come pre-wired for Sirius. When I ordered my car back in Dec 2003, you had to order it as an option, now it comes standard.

While it may not integrate w/ the iDrive, you could have the dealer install an Aux Input jack in the glove box and then connect either Sirius or XM through that. Not the fix you're hoping for but it does work. As for the CD player, I'm afraid it is simply not a plug and play thing. Like the earlier question about the do-it-yourself Sirius install, the dealer has to "activate" the changer in the software so that it will appear as an option in your iDrive.

Thanks for the input and suggestion. I might have to settle for the aux jack route. I can wait a bi if their is a possible chance the dealer will be able to wire satellite up to my i-drive in the near future. Any truth in that??

Just trade it in for a new one... I'm nearly ready to do the same with my '04... the cost of buying the latest model in the first run.

At least for a good 6 months I was nearly the only one on the road with a new 5...
