Should you get Sport Package for 06 525?

What are the opinions on this issue? Is the Sport Package a worthwhile option on the 06 525?

I recently purchased a new '06 525i with the sport package after driving an '05 Toyota Corolla for a year.

The sport suspension in the 525i doesn't feel too firm when going over bumps in the road. It actually feels like my Corolla, in my opinion. Not too firm, not too soft. The ride is comfortable, yet stable.

The chrome window trim is replaced with black trim with the sport package. I really wish that it didn't do that. I liked the chrome trim.

The 525i sport wheels look extremely similar to the 525i standard wheels. If it weren't for the different window trim, it would be very hard to tell the difference.

The front seats look more aggressive with thigh/side bolsters and adjustable thigh support. They actually feel very comfortable, and when you sit in them, it feels as if the seat is hugging you. In my opinion, this increases driver confidence. However, the chunky thigh bolsters can be somewhat annoying when you want to sit sideways in the front seat, or at times when getting in/out.

I never got the chance yet to test the limits of the performance tires and active roll stabilization that comes with the sport package due to nervous passengers that panic during sporty driving manuevers ----> . I need to wait for the chance to drive alone to see how the equipment really handle.

The performance tires are also run flat tires (Bridgestone Potenza), so I feel somewhat more secure when driving since I know that I won't have to worry about the car spinning out of the control from a regular tire blowing out. It's also a convenience feature. Also, I'm not sure of the standard tire's speed rating (I think it's V [149 MPH]), but the performance tires are W rated (168 MPH). Although 525i is limited to 150 MPH (and you probably won't be driving near that speed anyway), it's more safe to ride on a tire that can withstand more stress, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, however, performance tires don't last as long as the standard all-season tires and will need to be replaced sooner, and the price of performance run-flats are pretty pricey ($266 each at tirerack.com).

Overall, would I recommend the sport package? Yes.

I don't think the sport package is worth it on the 525. If you want, spend the money on some bigger wheels - and put the rest in the bank.

I disagree. IMO the sports package with ARS improves the handling of the car considerably. I wouldn't even consider the 5-series without the sports package. Drive them back-to-back on extended test drives and I think you'll feel the same way if handling is an important factor. The base car handles great but I think the sports package really sharpens the car's responses to driver inputs.
