Just ordered my new 550 Sport for ED. I have had a 94 dark green 540, a dark blue 540 (2000) and now will have a new 550.
I debated on all the colors and chose Black Sapphire over Jet Black and the blue colors. I do not want silver or gray.
Any thoughts on Black Sapphire as a color to maintain and look at in Sunny California.
Thanks

Saphire Black, IMHO, is a great color on an E60.
If you are the least bit fussy about your car, you will be cleaning it regularly.
Congrats on the new ccar. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
What options did you get?

is great if you can wash the car thoroughly once per week. also, no matter what anyone says on these threads i think that the good old "swirlies" swirl marks, are bound to catch up with you. if you are leasing for 39 months and dont care--go for it. no color looks better out the showroom. however, if you are keeping the car for 4,5 6 years. i would seriously question the merits of any black color. it wont look very good after 4 years. my two cents...

As an owner of several black and very dark cars, there is nothing that looks better when they are clean. My 03 325 is jet black and been washed at least weekly. Swirlmarks are not a problem IF you rinse the car before washing to remove as much grit as possible, use very soft cotton wash rags, and rinse the rags regularly during the wash. If the wash rag hits the ground, get a new one. If you do get swirlmarks try a Porter Cable polisher with Meguires #9 followed by Zaino Z-2 and Z-5.
Good luck and I like your choice.

Your Saphire Black is a great choice...congratulations!
I would highly recommend Zaino Z2 (along with ZFX) to get an awesome deep shine with NO swirl marks. Plus you can put on two coats in about 1 hour.
I love it.
