car been at dealer for 6 days. they found that the computer in the trunk where the spare tire supposedly be or bottom of trunk has been in contact with coolant. half a bottle of coolant did spill in the trunk during a long trip to vegas. Is there a computer there or near the area? if there is, that means no one can ever spill liquid in the trunk. any ideas or feedback is appreciated.

seems pretty unlucky. you must have spilled a lot of "coolant"

yeah...it was most of the gallon. i guess no one else ever experienced this. well the dealer called back and estimated cost for repairs at 800. man i think i luck out on this, i thought it would be around 2000 or more. i was hoping they would work around it for us to be covered under warranty, but guess not.

Just curious, was the coolant back there 'just in case' or have you had some issues? I have heard other people comment about the placement of modules in the trunk that could raise concern of this kind of problem. But this is the only example I know of where it has actually failed after getting in contact with liquid. It may have had to do with the volume of liquid. It would probably have to be a bad leak in the trunk to get a gallon or more in that par tof the trunk. I have heard of people finding modules in the trunk to have some oxidation or signs of contact with water that they reported to their dealers.

Wow. ANy idea what "moduels" are in the trunk? I know on older BMWs they used to put the nav and the telephone control unit back there. But atleast they put htem off to the side and not on the trunk bottom. What else did they put back tehre on hte e60? Sounds pretty stupid...

yeah...i brought the gallon just in case of any troubles. so as for the oxidation, did the they ever get repaired or replaced under warranty? i don't know what modules are in or under the trunk. the dealer said the car will be ready some time next week. once i get the paper work, i'll try to find out.
on a side note, i have been really disappointed with this car. i know this time it was my fault but prior this, the car died twice within couple of weeks for electrically issues. i am extremely tempted to sell or trade in for a TL.
