'05 545 - Preowned - Would you do this deal? (Need Fdbk FAST!)

I was at a dealer today - they have the following car:
'05 545ia - Sapphire Black on Black
- Nasca leather, ventilated seats
- Sports package
- Comfort seats
- Premium sound
- Satellite Radio
- Heads-up display
- Navigation
- 11,000 miles
- CPO Warranty

The car was in great shape (a small chip on the wood in front of the passenger's seat, which they said they'd fix). They were asking $59,900 and came down to $56,000 - said that was as good as they could go. Original MSRP on this car is $69,600.

I have 4 months left on my current car lease (MBZ E500), so it'd take $2400 to pay off that car.

Should I go for this car, or would I be better off waiting and going for a new 550? (It would obviously be more expensive, but might be able to lease for a better rate).

Opinions?

Thanks!!!

Ira

Because you have four months on the Lease, look at ED. For my 2006 550, I am paying 56,000 Sport Package, Premium Audio. So, not only do you save 2,400 you get a better car. If you spend $600-$700 for a round trip ticket to Munich it still works out to be a good deal.

Well, not sure where you got the MSRP of $69,600 but if my calculations are correct, MSRP on a new 550 with those options would be $66,195 with an invoice price of $60,485. Even if invoice on a 545 was the same and you could have bought it new for $1500 over invoice, you'd only be saving $6,000. To me, that's not a good enough deal for a one year old car with 11K miles and a soon to be outdated badge. I'd pass.

Were you only interested in an automatic? One of the board moderators (Agent99) has been looking for someone to take over his lease on a 2005 545 with SMG and only 8500 miles - looks like a great deal to me. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=113060

Or, since you have 4 months until your lease is up, have you considered Euro delivery? If you paid $1,500 over invoice (which I'm pretty sure you could do going through a dealer on the board even though it is the "new" badge since ED cars don't come out of the dealer allocation), a new 550 via Ed would only cost $2K more (56,645 +1,500). Even if you paid full MSRP via ED, I think I'd prefer that for only $6K more than the 545 you're considering.

Unless I did the math wrong, here's the way I worked the numbers. (Yes, I'm obviously bored right now. )

MSRP = 57,400 (or 53,380 Euro Delivery MSRP)
2,300 sports package
N/C Steptronic auto transmission
1,200 comfort seats
1,800 premium sound
1,800 navigation
1,000 head up display
695 destination charge

I think $56K is a mediocre deal at best - and since you've got to eat $2,400 on your MB the deals a bit of a stinker.

Since you want to lease - why not order a new 550 (either ED like Dreamer suggested) or simply for delivery at your local dealer in 4 months? By that time the "new" would have worn off a bit and your local dealer may give you a better deal than they will now.

Not sure anyone on this board will give you a on your present deal.

Thanks - though you missed a couple of things in your calculations. This car has Nasca Leather (the perforated leather) - an $1800 option, Ventilated Seats, a $1200 option, and the rear sunshade (which I failed to list) - that brings it pretty close to the $69,600 MSRP (give or take a few dollars). A 550 equipped the same way, at $1000 over invoice, will run $66,900. If I roll my $2000 remaining on my lease into the $56K price of the 545, it's about an $8,000 difference - a little bit more than you figured, but your point is still well taken.

I didn't see those options on the list and never would have guessed they were another $3K on top of $1200 for the comfort seat option, but you're right! I found them here. http://www.intellichoice.com/reports.../BMW/model/545 That's a lot of money for special leather with holes in it.

Personally, the perforated leather in Mercedes is something I've always disliked, but if you like it, I'd be happy to come over with an ice pick and perforate your leather for you for half the cost.
