 Are these idrive problems?

I have been driving a 530i (2005 Model) for around 1 year now and have faced a number of annoying little problems:
- I have had the entire i-drive freeze on me. No buttons worked anymore, time stopped, could not remove a CD or the nav DVD. It seemed to reset itself when I cut the engine for 5 minutes.
- I get random alarms stating that I am out of oil (...yes, I checked and the level was OK); or that I have a problem with some window trap function
- I have removed the ignition key only to find that my lights did not turn themselves off (couple of times)...or my radio decided to continue playing (only once)
- In the last week, idrive seemed to reset itself on 2 occasions, once while I was driving, and once when I was parking

Again, these are annoyances as they tend to disappear again. Does anyone know whether an idrive update would fix this? Not knowing anything about this, I am assuming that all controls reside in the idrive SW, and that an update of this would reduce bugs...

If that is the case, is this something the dealer must do? Mine told me that the update takes up to 2 days to install...Or could I update this myself? Does this then also introduce the new nav version that many of you have mentioned?

thanks for any info.

Yes, an iDrive update should help reduce these problems. Unfortunately, your dealer is correct, it takes a long time to run the updates and they must be done at the dealer. You should get an updated view on the NAV if you have NAV pro.

Only real issue I've had (2 or 3 times now)........ when I start the car, the radio somehow is tuned to FM instead of the SAT station that I had tuned to prior to shutting off the car. As soon as I click the iDrive to go back to the SAT station... it goes back to the SAT station by itself.

Thanks for the info. I called my dealer and made an appointment to have the new version loaded. He did not really understand the concept of updating SW, he spoke about re-programming it - guess this is the same thing.
