I'd like to hear some feedback from people who went from 545i to 550i . Is there enough difference in power for me to step up to a 550i.

I also have a '05 545i, and the hit you'll take on your existing car (including lost sales tax in CA, since you pay tax on new car price, not difference between new & trade) vs. the price of a new 550i, can't be justified by the marginal power increase--at lease for me.

take the $10,000 you'll loss and buy a 550i emblem. what the different between 0-60 in 5.5 to 5.3 on the us hi ways. my 545 has all the power i'll ever need. feels like my hemi 426 from the 60s. the 440 6 pak didnt fell any different in the 0-60 then.

I already figured out that for comparably equipped 545 and 550:
I would pay over $7000 more over a 3 year lease
to obtain 0-60 mph decrease of 0.2 seconds for the 550.
No thanks.
My 545 cost me 2.4% interest. The 550 would cost me 6.24% interest.
Otherwise the cars are virtually the same:
Same interior.
Same iDrive.
Same GD SQUEEKS!

I compared the 645 and 650, the difference is neglible. Either car has so much power, more than most people would use unless they were on the track. Both have same top speed.
However, there is a situation in which I would buy the 650 over the 645, that is if I was buying the convertible because of the added 400+ pounds.
645 coupe = 650 convertible

Also the new BMW 550i in manual gained 99 pounds over a 545i manual and a 550i auto gained 110 pounds over the 545i in auto. The power to weight ratio is only a difference of 0.8. the 545i already has plenty of power for everyday and is also lighter which would make the handling slightly better. 545i auto weight distributuion is 51.4 vs the 550i auto weight distribution of 51.7. still not a huge difference but it still counts. honestly I would rather go with the 545i for the slightly lighter feeling and better weight distribution.
