Consumer Reports confirms my fears about the new model fives.

Well, I know the 2005 model design changes are controversial. Personally I think the new threes and fives look like they chopped the front off of a Grand Am, the mid-body off a Cadillac, and the rear end off of a Mazda 6 and then welded them together. Let's just say I'm not enthused. Now I read in Consumer reports that the fit and finish of the interior had dropped several notches and that overall reliability is down as well.

Come on! Let's not strive for mediocrity here. These are supposed to be driving fanatics cars. What the heck is BMW doing?

I too wanted to upgrade my 2001 330i to an E60 ED, but after reviewing them in detail, I'm definitely going elsewhere (most likely Infiniti M45).

Nice description of the E90. You should get a Cadillac or a Mazda 6 (which I actually like) and have fun on your drive to mundane-ville..........

Consumers Reports don't know !#$#% when it comes to testing cars. Where is the 'driving fanatics' category?

They take the lowest common denominator approach. Driving dynamics, and other 'feel' attributes rarely show up in the review columns.

BMW's may not be quite up to the reliability of the Japanese cars - but who cares? I will happily take one or two trips to the dealer (covered under warranty) for the pleasure of driving a BMW - than to drive some faceless, boring clone, that is 'dependable'.

Do you want to drive around with a smile on your face because you are in a driving machine? or because your nice conservative - bland car 'probably won't have any dependability issues?

I know what my choice is.

When I'm shopping for toasters and washing machines I always check Consumer Reports.

When I'm shopping for cars, I always don't.

Why don't u drive the 5 series and then tell us what u think cuz consumer reports dont know what they are talking about. They arent real drivers; they dont drive the car for the pleasure of driving it, they just think of a car as machine to get from point A to B. My friend, if you are not a "real driver" (driving just for the pleasure which includes many other factors like safety and so forth), then u are in the wrong forum.
