Hi,
I have a 2004 525I with build date Feb. 2004 and was looking at different options to install the Bluetooth. Fortunately after the software upgrade, TCU became defective. The problem now is that, dealer is saying that they will replace with an old model TCU under warranty and if I want the new model TCU which supports Bluetooth, and then I need to pay $2300.
But I have seen people replacing old model TCU with new model TCU under warranty if the current TCU is defective. Please help me to get a TCU with Bluetooth support.
Thanks.

You try a different dealer? How about BMW themselves?

Sounds like BS to me. That TCU has not been used since May 2004, or somewhere around there. I seriously doubt the dealer has one that old just sitting in stock. Me thinks the dealer can see how badly you want the Bluetooth and they are just trying to make a buck, or 2,300 of them to be exact.

The dealership cannot put anything back in the vehicle except for the original spec. parts under warranty or they will not get paid for the procedure. The only exception I know of is if the original parts are no longer available and they use a newer version as a replacement.

Read other boards, quite a few folks have had this problem where the older TCU failed and had to be replaced, at no extra cost to the owner. I also find it hard to believe that this dealer has a TCU that has not been used in the car since early 2004 still in stock. Personally I think they are just trying to get the $2,300 for the job out of him. Try another dealer and/or get BMW NA involved. And maybe I'm just a glass half empty person, but is the cost of the "new" TCU that much more that they feel the need to charge $2,300? If it is significantly more expensive, charge the difference maybe, but not the full cost of a new TCU.
