 What is "launch" mode?

i've seen "launch" mode mentioned many times, but not sure what it means?
Is this a special mode built into BMWs? Does it only apply for SMG? manual? or steptronic?
thanks in advance

Only for SMG's AFAIK, I don't know hot to initiate it, but basically the computer shifts for you to get the best acceleration.

Yeah, strictly SMG. I suspect it allows a high-rev clutch dump from a stop.

Hello My Friends:

I believe you can search the forum thread to find out additional details.

For those of us who have SMG Tranny's, the quick launch mode is engaged when you fully disengage the dsc -

I've tried it, be careful - wheels start spinning through to the redline - if you are in manual mode get ready to switch to second with a crashing thump, wheels chrip again in second - a cloud of white smoke appears in the rear view mirror as onlookers are on the road are saying - what is wrong with that guy?

what the F*%!
Holy C*%$!
What a jerk!
Wow that thing is powerful

meanwhile you get to the next light and your heart is still beating because in the 3 seconds that have just passed - your saying to yourself - I never knew.....

Equivalent to revving a manual and dropping the clutch.

Not many folks know about this feature, even most SMG owners.

Bottom line, cars are fast enough, do you really need to trash them?
