Fix it ticket, front license plate
So I just got my second fix-it ticket because I don't want to put a front license plate on my 545i. I live in California, where you are required to display a license on the front and the back of your vehicle. A fix-it ticket costs $100 if you just pay it without fixing it or $10 if you fix-it and get an officer to sign off on it. Sorry, but it just doesn't look right. However, I recently bought a Euro plate from Bavarian Autosport. Does anyone know the law in California about placing a non-DMV-issued Euro plate on your front bumper? Is it considered legal? Will they leave me alone?

I don't run a front plate on my new car either, but I don't go to SF very often. That is the only place I ever got hassled when I had my 528i sans front plate. I do see cars that display the plate in the windshield, on a stand or something that makes it very visible from the front of the car, and to those red-light control cameras.
It is the law but I think it stinks. I really don't want to drill holes in my front bumper. I live in a small town and stuff like this goes un-noticed. Maybe u can stick it on there somehow just to get the fine reduced, then take it back off again?

The dealer said he could attach the front plate bracket if I wanted, but said that if I get a ticket, install bracket and plate, get sign off, remove bracket and plate. There are plugs available that color match the front bumber for the bracket screw holes. BTW as an aside, I was stopped at a service station when a CHP officer came up and asked how I liked the car. He could see that I had no front plate and saw the back CA plate. He didn't say a word about the front plate, but only complimentary things about the car.

Some cops zero in on these things and others don't bother...you are unlucky in that you live in an area where they zero in on those things. Here in the Bay Area, I have yet to get a single word abou the lack of a front license plate but my wife mostly drives the car now. She's cute...she might get out of a ticket...hahaha Do a search on "bumperplugs" or something like that. There is a company that specifically caters to such things. The damn things are pricey, though, at $25 and $8 to ship them. I passed when I saw the outrageous shipping charge...I just leave the front license plate on my 545i...it came with holes from the factory so oh well....
