Aftermarket suspension kit for 530xi?
I live in an area where we get enough slippery conditions that I'd like to have an xi, but I don't need the additional ground clearance. I'd like to know if anyone knows of an aftermarket company that produces a sport suspension for the xi. Didn't someone make one for the E39 x's?

I haven't seen the suspension so I don't know all what's involved but if it is like any other BMW, a set of shocks/springs should be easy enough to make to lower the car a couple inches here and there. Be patient...call H&R daily to urge them to get a kit out!

I don't want to drop this thing to the ground, but I would like it to have the equivalent suspension of a 530i with the sport package (except, of course, for the ARS).

To tell you the truth, comparing it against a 530i (NON SPORT), you can't tell the difference (the xi maybe slightly higher, but you have to really look and notice it).
Now compare an xi against a 530i sport and you will see the difference with those 18" sport rims filling in the gaps.
If you really want the true sports suspension and lowered look, then you get the 530i SPORT and change out to snow tires during the winter months and you will then have the best of both worlds! A vehicle with Snow tires wil perform on par or better than my xi and it's all season in snow. I'm just too lazy and not the kind of guy that changes out my rims and tires every winter season.
Don't get me wrong the xi suspension is very good, it's a BMW, but I love the BMW sport packages, but it would defeat the purpose of an xi.

Are you looking for ground clearance, or AWD? I'd like AWD with less chassis roll and a firmer ride. But, I'm willing to change to snow tires in the winter and performance tires for the summer (I think that's why you can get an Audi A6 with sport suspension and summer tires as an option).
If you live in the snowy area and don't like the hassle of storing/changing rims/tires then, you're absolutely right, get the xi. It's a darn nice BMW.
I worry about RWD on the 530i with snow tires. My E39 528i sport package with snows (Dunlop Winter Sport M2's on 16" rims) cannot get up the hill into my neighborhood on the bad days. The snow never gets too deep around here (frequent plows mean about 6" at worst), so I don't need clearance. I just want to get up the hill without buying an X5.

The key is the 18" rims and run flat tires. Snow tires on a RWD vehicle can be just as good as an xi with All Seasons.
