New E90 330i has far superior performance over the 530i?
I have yet to test drive the new 3-series, but I've been hearing from more than 1 person who has driven both the e90 330i and the e60 530i say that the 330i has better handling and was much more fun to drive. For those of you who have driven both, what were your impressions? Right now I'm really on the fence because I much prefer the styling of the 5 series over the new e90 3-series, yet I want a great performance machine. I was seriously considering the 530i with SP, but if it is indeed a 'bore' compared to the new 330i as I've heard, than perhaps the 545i/550i would be a better choice? I just was thinking comparing the 330 with the 530 would be more of an apples to apples comparison, but has anyone compared the 330 with the 545/550 as well?

Remember, the 330 weighs a bit less and is a slightly smaller car, so by nature it is going to be slightly sportier.

The 3er does have "better" handling because it is slightly smaller. Suggest you test drive both.

I just was thinking comparing the 330 with the 530 would be more of an apples to apples comparison, but has anyone compared the 330 with the 545/550 as well? | usually that is said if the person cant afford the E60....go drive an E60 with SP and see which is better! dont listen to anyone else...the E60 will handle better! it has ARS which the E90 does not, its no bore!, and if you can afford, go for the 550i, it will lap the E90

Its true -- the 330i is more fun to drive. I should know, I own a 530i (E39), and I've driven several E60s and E90s. A comparably equipped 330i is also $10k cheaper than a 530i.
OTOH, the 530i is going to be a better built, longer-lasting, sturdier and more comfortable car than the 330i. This becomes apparent just from the feel of the doors.
So you have to decide: Handling and fun vs. built quality and comfort.
