How Do You Get 255 Horses out of the 3 liter motor?

I just bought my wife a 2006 525i for my wife that has 215 horses. The manager says that is is the same motor that is in the 530 and if I did some modication we can get 255 horses out of the motor. Does anybody know how to do that? And does it hurt gas mileage because on the spec sheets show the same mileage from the 525 and the 530.

Thanks in advance.

The motor is 3.0 Liter 6 cyl. It would be cheaper to buy a 530i rather than modify the 3.0 l 6 cyl. in the 525i

(Moderator Note: I edited the subject title from 'cylinder' to 'liter')

Agreed...you should have gotten the 3 liter engine to begin with.

Both 525 and 530 engines are 3.0L
The 525 engine has a single stage intake and detuned software. 215Hp
the 530 engine has a three stage intake and and different software. 255Hp

Thats really the only difference

The reason BMW put the 3 l I6 into the 525 was to meet emissions requirements. It is detuned from the 530, and has a slightly less efficient and less complex air intake, which accounts for the difference in torque and hp. It would be cheaper to have gotten a 530 than to try to upgrade the 525.
