getting HORENDOUS gas mileage on a 530 xi t? admittedly, i do the worst kind of driving. short distance, stop and go. i am getting 13.9 lately. please, dont tell the new 6 cyl engine is a gas hog...this is THE one and only disappointment with this car. otherwise, i love it. comparisons to the e90 330 that another person has posted on this site are apples and oranges.. these cars are aimed at different markets hence the different price points. my own humble opinion is that the 5 series is a little bit older persons car, more comfortable ride etc.

Quite the contrary...BMW's 6-cyclinder engines are some of the most effecient around compared to V6's and turbo'd 4 cyclinder engies of similar HP.

To be getting 13.5 from a brand new car in city driving when it is rated at 19/20 isn't all that bad (espicially for an AWD car). You already admit your driving is going to take its toll, but also don't forget that it is a brand new engine as well. I found on my E46 that my mileage improved as the car aged. It may take you a little while to reach max mileage. If the driving is as bad as you protray, you might not see it get any better. If that is the case, take comfort in the fact that there are a lot of poor slobs out there in cars that aren't as nice getting as bad if not worse mileage.

wagon,

have you confirmed the mileage independent of the computer in the car?

My 545i is getting 19 city and did 24 on the highway. My 2001 530i gets 20 city and 30 highway.

I did an extended trip last weekend, all highway driving, good weather, and traffic was moving at about 75mph. Over the course of 6 hours, I averaged 34 mpg, and verified by hand calculation.

You are so right! This poor slob only gets ~14 mpg in city driving (EPA=19) his Volvo XC70. We're considering getting an 530xiT in the future so this is interesting.

agent 99, i have computed mileage the old fashioned way and it still sucks. rassmussen bmw here in portland says the mileage i have been getting is not out of line with what they have been saying. how do you spell diesel? maybe bmw will bring the turbo desiel over here? i know the euro mags love it. i dont know what the cons are though. do you?
