x-drive panned
in todays wall street journal (friday sept 16th) they ran a story on 50k sedans now coming with awd. they ran a roan test of sorts on an ice rink. the bmw 530xi came in last. they also inaccurately described how x-drive functions saying that it it devides power 60/40 between back and front wheels. this is not my understanding. i thought the latest x-drive has all the power in the back unless or until there is a need elsewhere in which case power is delivered to that wheel in .10 seconds. the best awd accrodring to the paper? the mercedes e class with 4 matic. 1) who ever would drive on total ice? 2) does anything really help on a sheet of ice except for studded wnow tires. if they are going to perform such a test at least do it snow which is more realistic. the press sucks (by and large).

By they way even with this split between Rear & AWD for the xi, the xi still handles and drives very well (as you know) as you can imagine. I would have loved to get a 530i Sport, but you can't drive that vehicle in any type of snowfall without feeling scared.
