Anyone have a problem with paint chipping on a 5 month old 525?
Live in Wash DC suburb... so our birds may have special diets but I hose the car down periodically to prevent bird **** from staining, but I got a couple of spots on the hood where paint has crackled and chipped off... don't know if it's the birds, or defective paint... most unfortunate!
Anyone encounter this?

Is it clear coat? Or is it through the paint to the aluminum?

Just read your post about chipping paint.
I picked up my 06 525i 2 weeks ago.
Last Friday I noticed I had a chip in the hood. I thought it was a rock chip. I washed the car saturday and started finding little whitish spots on the hood and truck lid. I also found one on the driver's door panel. I tried to remove it with my fingernail and it chipped off to the primer.
I met with the service and general manager at the dealership on Monday.
We found around 15 spots on the car. They were perplexed as to what it is. I am meeting a paint specialist there on Tuesday to see what he thinks.
I told them do what they want, but I want a new car.
They told me to let them first figure out the problem. I contacted BMW NA and informed them via email. They called me back and told me to let the dealer figure it out first.
I am so pissed, I still don't feel like this is my car.
What color is your car? Mine Orient Blue.

The color of my 05 525 is Silver Grey. And the chipping is through to the aluminum about 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch area surrounded by a crackling zone of about an inch square. This is very concerning indeed.
Let us know what your paint specialist tells you Billy.
An odd comment was made by a guy that does auto detailing about a couple of months after I bought my car. This is before the chip appeared. He looked at the paint and said "this does not have a clear coat on it". I thought he's pulling this out of his you know what so that I would use his service (which I did not).... . This was at a time where we had heavy pollen in the DC area and I thought that made the paint look dull. But now I am thinking the detailing guy may have been right. The chip is on the hood closer to the windsheild. And there is no sign of damage due to a dent, rock, etc. It really looks like you took a heat gun to it just like when you're trying to strip paint.
Very concerning indeed. I wonder if there is a global problem.....
