Well I had my less than 1 month old, less than 1000 mile 05-545i in for repairs at the dealer earlier this week because my driver side rear window was acting up. Well apparently during the removal and reinstallation of the door panel they added a nice scratch to my door jam. Unfortunately you can also see the scratch even when the door is closed. Now the dealer at least admitted they made the mistake and offered to obviously pay to have it fixed but Christ…I don't want my door jam painted already! So they just used some touch up paint for now and I guess I'm living with it. But my question is...they agree they I deserve some compensation. I was curious to what anyone suggests. I thought about asking for an extended warranty, or a free "clear bra".
What else? TIA!

I can't agree. They admited they did it and are willing to fix it. Let them fix it. Especially in a situation such as yours where it is such a minor problem, coverable with touchup paint, and in an area that you need to really look at to find it.
This is the kind of thinking that makes us BMW owners look like greedy, selfish bastards.

This is the kind of thinking that makes us BMW owners look like greedy, selfish bastards. | Not at all. In fact it looks like BMW is offerering something up proactively. They made a mistake - a big one in my opinion. The car is still covered in "new" and now it has a big scratch. Its very frustrating and a great opportunity for BMW to demonstrate how much it cares about its cars - and their owners.
Its sounds like BMW is taking this approach by offering some sort of additional compensation - and letting Getcha think of something that would make him happy. Why do you feel accepting it makes him a "greedy selfish bastard"?

Wow...so CJsCar...you see nothing wrong with having your brand spanking new BMW repainted in less than a month?!? If so...you're in a totally different mindset than I am!!! I mean this isn't a Ford Festiva.
My BMW dealer acknowledges the fact that I deserve some sort of compensation for their unfortunate mistake. It's my service advisor that is apologizing and asking "what do you want? what will make you happy? We can paint it for you. Or I'll do what I can.". I am simply soliciting suggestions on what sounds fair to ask for. I'm NOT asking whether or not you think I am a "greedy selfish bastard" for wanting something other than my brand new car sprayed with non-factory paint.
credit777, I appreciate you agreeing that this was a "big mistake" on their part. Because I sure feel the same way. Would you get it repainted? If not...what would you ask for?

Greed, something for nothing, take advantage of them, they screwed up! This is nonsense, get it fixed, you will not even know where the ding was.
I would suggest you have them fix right, through a body shop or dent pro. I had dents or scratches fixed and you seriously can't tell where they were.

Man, it's really unfortunate that everyone thinks I am being greedy. I just don't want my d@mn car painted when I've only had it for a freakin month. Even "touchup" paint jobs from a BMW dealer are NEVER as good as factory paint. NOTHING is. All I need is some suggestions on "fair" alternatives to repainting. Anyone please?
