Has anyone detected a steering wheel whine which seems
to come from the top of the steering column as opposed from a
power steering whine under the hood. Its only noticeable at slow
speeds making a 20 - 30 degree turn in either direction.

BMW changed a mechanical part in the steering assembly when I last took the car in for service. However the problem has appeared again and they will change it again at the next service as part of the guarantee.
