My car idles at 500 which I think is low. What do you guys think?
Also, everytime I turn the car on, the AC is also on even if I turned it off the last time. Whats up with that?

Quote: Mine idles at 500, which I think is fine. However, when the AC is on, the idle goes up to 700rpm and the car shakes, which I think BMW should address. Does your car shake with AC on at idle?
Southpaw80 | Same.

500 rpm is normal. You can thank valvetronic for that and the for the extra pennies under your seat in the form of marginally improved gas mileage. On my 745, the idle is slightly below 500.

To turn off the AC and have it remain off even after you start the engine do, the following.
1. Engine is running. Press the automatic button and then the Off button. This turns off the AC. 2. Turn off the engine. 3. The next time you start your car, the AC will not be ON until you turn it ON.

My car also idles at 500rpm. No worries there.
Regarding the A/C, here's what I do which works everytime:
1) Turn off the A/C first by hitting the A/C button (picture of a snowflake).
2) Turn off the fan (button labeled 'OFF' in the center of the middle dial).
3) Turn the car off.
Next time I get into my car and start it, 'OFF' light is still lit.

Unfortunately these methods for turning off the ac does not work on my 545i. I have to turn the ac off after I start the car. It always comes on by itself even after following the above suggestions. The car is much better performance-wise with the ac off.
