 Newbie needs help

Hi everyone. Please be patient with me, I've never posted on a discussion forum, but I need some expert advice. I'm currently driving a 2004 330 ci , premium package, sport performance package, premioum sound. I love this car, with the exception of the sport suspension. The ride is too rough for me, and my city must have more potholes than any city in the world. So I'm looking for two things, a little smoother ride, and a bigger car with four doors. I visited my local dealer on Monday and test drove the 530 sedan, Nice car but decided for kicks to drive the 545. Wow, I haven't had that much fun in a long time. Anyway I've decided that the new 550 is the car for me. The salesman said that the
sport suspension in the 5 series does not ride as roughly as the 3. but don't want to make a mistake. Will the 550 without the sport package have the "fun" factor? What really is the difference in the way the car handles and drives? Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh yes, it will still have the fun factor without the sport package, but some people refuse to buy their BMW's w/o it, so you really should try to find one without the sport package and go for a test drive. Personally, I think of the sport package as icing on the cake. The big difference is the active roll stabilization and the wheel size, plus the car is a bit lower on the suspension which is a little firmer. The ARS allows the car to be a little more plush in a straight line but really limits roll in the corners. In the end through, only you can decide if it is worth it. Good luck!

There will be very little diference in the smooth ride feel in the new 550 with sports package, than without. But there are many pluses to getting it with sports package, I just ordered one about a week ago. Very different then what it was in the past !!!
