Handling on 5series Xi/T??
Can anyone comment on the handling of the xi compared to rwd and sport suspensions?

| | Reply » Handling on 5series Xi/T?? | I think you are right- BMW tuned the x-drive for rear wheel bias, so handling should be almost the same. I even thought I read somewhere (I could be mistaken) that x-drive can transfer 100% to the rear wheels if necessary.
| | Reply » Handling on 5series Xi/T?? | Before making my purchase, I too was worried on how the 530xi would compare handling wise to the 530i with and without sport, so I test drove the 530xi and a 530 (Non Sport - they didn't have any sports on the lot).
I truly could not tell the difference, the handling on both were great, typical BMW handling. However I it's a given that that handling would be better in the Sport Version, with the larger and fatter tires, sport-tuned suspension and ARS, which could also mean a little firmer ride too, which is a good or bad thing to some, but to tell you the truth if you are not taking those turns so hard and driving really fast on a curvy road often, the 530xi with the balance of power transfer is still very tight.
And this is coming from a guy that loves the sports package, but needs better traction in the winter snow.

And this is coming from a guy that loves the sports package, but needs better traction in the winter snow. | i have an 06 530 xi wagon and i love it. i cannot tell you how it compares to the rwd version with ars and active steering. honestly, i dont thin k i would get active steering even if i could have (it doesnt work with the x-drive). my understanding of this latest x-drive is that it is rwd unless or until there is wheel spin in which case power gets directed to whatever other wheel needs it in .10 seconds. the car handles like a dream. i am not a sport package person. i like a nice tight, responsive ride. i am not setting speed records nor am i looking to burn up any corners. i am completely satisfied with the xi and would highly recommend it to anyone. as an aside, i feel that the wagaon version is better looking than the sedan. the sedan is nice, no doubt, but the wagon takes out a lot of that boxy, clunkiness that is some dont like in the sedan.
