I live in NJ and this will be my first winter without Quattro. In anticipation to the winter, I would like to purchase some snow tires for my 545i with sport package and run flat tires. What is the best route... put snow tires on existing rims or buy new wheels/tires? If buying wheels tires, what is the optimal size for snow performance? Any advice would be appreciated.

It would be MUCH easier to buy new wheels/tires, as removing the run-flats and putting them back on the rim can only be done by an experienced professional with a special machine. Check out what tirerack.com has to recommend for the winter tire setup, they usually have very good advice along with good pricing.

I used Dunlop Wintersport M3's and they were great on the highway and in the snow. For the really deep stuff I used my Subaru Outback though.

I got a great deal from Crevier on take-offs for my 5er and the car handled great in the snow.

Thanks to all.
What is the reason for going 1 size smaller?

What is the reason for going 1 size smaller? | Larger wheels are more prone to bend from potholes occasioned by winter weather is a starter.
