 What is "Comfort Access"?

In the price list that Jon posted here there's an option called "Comfort Access". Does anybody know what that is? I've seen the preliminary 06 brochure but I don't think it's listed there. TIA.

Keyless access and operation.

Comfort Access is BMW's version of Lexus' Smart Key. You keep a key fob in your pocket which you hope and pray is not carcinogenic which enables you to open the driver's door without using a key and start the car by pressing a button.

To be a bit exact, it is the option that lets you open the door and start the car without taking out the key from your pocket. There's a start button to start the car.

I think it will be available in post-Sept/Oct production of the 5 series...not 100% sure though.

In the E90, you still have to put in the key into the slot, then hit the start button to start the car. The option should be available soon in the 3-series also.

Hope this helps.

Already avail. in E90 (well, in two days technically)

Thanks everyone! But now I need to confirm one more thing:

As I understand from the MY2006 September Update document that Jon also posted, there will be a Start/Stop button for all 5 series lineup. So without Comfort Access, I'll need to insert the key fob into the slot to start the engine. But with Comfort Access, I can keep the key in my pocket and start the engine with the button. Is that correct?

I'm trying to finalize the option choices for my 530.

Thanks again!
