gas mileage
while in europe in my 06 530 xi t i was getting around 21 mpg. i was impressed. granted, very little of it was stop and go. fast forward 10 weeks, i back in lovely portlnd, oregon where i make many .6 mile trips daily and my mileage is about 13mpg! anyone else have this experience with city driving? i called kuni bmw service dep and was told that the gas quality here is worse than europe due to all the additives. that sucks!
| | Reply » gas mileage | Double-check the numbers by calculating MPGs yourself...at least verify the computer's findings. Also, check the obvious things like tire pressure. I wouldn't expect tire pressure to lose you 8 mpgs (maybe 2 mpgs) but nevertheless, check what you can.
| | Reply » gas mileage | I seem to only get 21.5-22mpg on the highway but I really haven't paid much attention to city. I mostly drive short distances so the 21.5 may be mainly city driving since it takes an average.

| | Reply » gas mileage | My drive from Los Angeles to San Jose I got 31MPG in my 2004 530i. I only went 5MPH over the speed limit. I only stopped for gas and food... so it was mostly freeway driving.

You may already be aware this, but you can change the displayed MPG in different formats via I-Drive:
I was curious last night so changed my settings to see just how much difference there is between US mpg and UK mpg.. thinking that perhaps while you were in Germany, it was set up improperly.
I was seeing 18 mpg in my instrument cluster.
I went into I-Drive and selected Display Settings > Units > Consumption and changed to mpg UK.
My displayed mpg (although it looked exactly the same in my instrument cluster) went from 18 mpg to 21.7 mpg when I set it to mpg UK.
Regardless, I think you should be getting better than 13.
