Got my '06 550i on order!
I'm a new member but have been cruising this web site (and others) for weeks deciding the final details on my new 550. bimmerfest has been the BEST resource and helped me in many ways to define exactly what I want and (hopefully) get a good deal on it.
Here's my new car:
'06 (late October build I was told today) 550i Monaco Blue, with Beige NASCA leather (!!) Steptronic Confort seats Active Seat Ventilation + NASCA leather Comfort Access NAV HUD Sport Package
After much research I confirmed with the dealer that to get NASCA leather you must order the Active Seat Ventilation + NASCA leater, which adds $1020+1800=2800 to MSRP. This option does included heated seats, so I was able to delete the $750 cold package. I know its a LOT for seats (over and ABOVE the $1200 for comfort seats) but after sitting in a 745i with comfort+NASCA+vent I loved it so much that I'm springing for it. I intended to keep the car for at last four years and life has been good to me so this is my treat.
Now if only I could blink hard enough to have the calendar suddenly be JANUARY '06 with the dealer having just called me saying the boat has unloaded my car -- come get it.....
ps got it for $1,500 under MSRP, so for a hot new model (none of which have even been delivered to this dealer yet) I'm happy with the deal. Thanks again to you members that armed me with dealer cost, options, opinions, etc. etc. to be an informed buyer

| | Reply » Got my '06 550i on order! | Congrats, Pilot, and welcome to the 'Fest. There is a very good dealer here on 'Fest in Salem (DeLon BMW, Jim Cupp) who could set you up with a euro delivery and save you a fair amount of money. Did you look into that option at all? The vented seats sound awesome...I considered them for my 545i but the price tag on options was already way up there and I couldn't justify it. However, I may spring for them when I pick up an '07 530i/550i a year from now.

I'm sold on HUDs (as I have one on my 2000 Corvette and love it). I would have passed on the NAV package but that seems to be a prerequisite. This forum seems to indicate this should not be so, but the dealership couldn't find any other way to configure with HUD. Do you have any insight here?
In any event, I'm so looking forward to getting the car! I went for a 2 hour drive (after signing my papers!) in an demo 05 545i comfigured similar to mine and had a blast. It was raining (first time in three weeks) and the roads were quite slick. I backed down about 15% from my limits and still had fun. DSC was working hard as was ABS. All in all a very impressive demonstration of why BMW's are so much fun and I think I've made the right choice.
Thanks, -steve-

I plan on keeping the car for at least 4 years so I think (hope) that a purchase will make sense over a lease. I thought about it, and still have the option up until 30 days prior to delivery, to choose the lease option.
Perhaps I should look into lease rates and see....
