 Importing from Canada

I am purchsing a 545i that is a Canadian titled car. The car is already here in the U.s, just arrived. Are there any problems with regestering the car to the U.S.

IIRC, it is a PITA but doable. Loss of warranty is one problem, making the car US legal is another. Someone did exactly that on this or another board so hopefully he chimes in.

It can be a pain in the ass to get it registered depending on if it meets US specs or not. The easiest thing to do is call the customs office where you'll be bringing the car across and ask them what you need to do to get it into the US. I have brought a car back and forth before (don't ask) and it's not hard but there are specific steps you need to do.

Just call them. I found them helpful and friendly.

The car is already here just not registered in the U.S. yet. the title is a Canadian title. Any help with that, i call the local DMV thay told me to just bring it in there would be no problem . But i thought that was to easy, thanks

Maybe California was different. It took me forever. First they wanted the police to inspect it (verify the VIN number was what I reported) then they wanted me to get the VIN number stamped on 12 body parts (I never did that). Then it was a problem with the emmisions standards and no US sticker so I had to get it done at a place with a special "referee".

It wasn't that bad but there was a lot of run around. Hopefully GA is better.

Good luck!

James.

Question: Did you buy it new, and if so, how? Canadian dealers require a Canadian drivers license and insurance policy to sell new BMWs.

Also, your warranty (but not Full Maintenance) should be honored by any US dealer.
