 I wonder if I am doomed ...

I wonder if I am doomed to be without comfort seats.

Thursday I received a call from my CA that we had received a production number (# was issued Tuesday) for our vehicle. He said that if I wanted to make any changes I needed to act quickly. After reading numerous posts we decided to add comfort seats to our option package. I emailed him on Friday and called today to confirm that he had received the message. He said no but would be glad to pull it up on his computer and make the change. When he did, he found that the vehicle was now "scheduled for production" and it was too late to make changes. He said he would email Germany and BMWNA to try to get the change. I also emailed BMW from the Owner's Circle website. I'm afraid this may all be in vain. Anyone have any ideas?

When is your ED date? If its far enough in advance, you could cancel your current order and submit a new one. That's really the only option you have. BMW can also "rush" through a new order, its been done before. For me, comfort seats were a make or break part of the deal. Good luck, keep us posted!

Me530, my delivery date is 10/10 (pretty far out). I'm really afraid to cancel and reorder because this date is very important to me. Plane and hotel reservations are all booked for a 3 1/2 week trip. I'm just hopeful that my CA will be successful at this point. I'm thinking seat installation comes at the end of production and shouldn't be a big problem. I'm worried, though, about a "rules are rules" attitude and no one wanting to help.

I think you'll definitely need a new order, but they can play with the information and I'm certain you can keep the same date. Your SA just needs to work with the ED department, they came through for me in a similar situation, and I bet they'll come through for you. Good luck, keep us posted!

Me530i, I just got a call from my SA. He talked to folks in Germany and they said no changes can be made. I suggested to him what you had passed on to me and he felt like once in "production status" a cancellation could not be made. Also, he felt that to rewrite an order would risk losing my delivery date.
I tried to email Dingolfing off their website but could not send the message. All required fields needed to be filled in (which they were), but the "United States" box kept disappearing when I would click the send button.

Man that's a bummer. Personally, I think that your date is far enough in advance that cancelling this order and putting in a new one should be easy as pie and keeping the same date should be no problem, in fact I'm positive that its possible. The ED department just has to do a bit more paperwork. I wonder if the dealer would get stuck with your cancelled car and as a result they are trying to dissuade you from going that route?

Alternatively, you could put in a new request/order, see if you get the date, and then cancel the old order. You could even do it through a different dealer. In any case, if you threaten to cancel the order and go to another dealer, and if they want your money bad enough, they'll make this happen for you...

When I did ED, I got the date I wanted. Then I discovered a problem with my order (comfort seats were accidentally deleted automatically when I deleted the sport package from my order) when I got the P.O. and the car was actually almost done with production at that stage, and my dealer submitted a new order, talked to the BMW NA ED department, and they allowed me to keep the same day with the new order. I don't know what happened to the original order/car though.

In any case, good luck. Its tough to imagine how much money you are paying for this car and its not exactly the way you want it!
