My 2005 530i provides me a key warning while exiting the vehicle even if the keys are in my coat pocket. I complained to my dealer/service facility and was told that the key does not clear from the computer memory for 5-10 seconds after removing from the ignition and thus, the key warning light. Although this explains the issue, it does not solve the problem. Has this issue been experienced by other 5 series owners? Any thoughts short of wasting time in my car waiting for the memory to clear and explain to the other occupants that the car is a "bit slow" when it comes to the key sensor? |

Hmm, my E60 doesn't have that problem. Does yours do this every single time or is it kind of intermittent? Is it really a big deal or can you just ignore it? Does it impact being able to lock the car? If so, then I agree that it is quite annoying. Perhaps a software upgrade is in order for you. Software runs everything in these cars and they are always "improving" it. Maybe whatever senses the key is little off tolerance or something.

I have the same problem with my 2005 525i, where the warning light and sound let's me know that I still have the key in the ignition, but that's not true......

| Yeap, I get about two chimes before I'm out of the car. Hard to believe that the BMW computer is that slow. Mine does it everytime. If I pause for a few seconds before opening the door, then all is well. Pretty annoying, although the chime is more pleasant than previous beeps or warning gongs. Agent99, you sure yours doesn't do it, since our cars are virtual production twins and have the same software version I'd be surprised. No Chime sound or key warning on instrument cluster when you remove key and rapidly open door?

Thank you all for your response. Its good to know I am not alone with this issue.
The last time I brought my car in for service, they checked the software and stated that it is "up to date". That was probably a month or so ago.
I am confident that the computer is controlling the "audible key warning" and it can be fixed by putting a simple "wait" statement in the code. I am not confident that my service center will voice my request to BMW in order to have this issue address. Any ideas on where I can request a fix for an issue like this? Do they actually listen or would I be wasting my time.
Thanks again for the quick responses!
