 Rear brake screeching noise

good morning all

I am new to this forum so if i state something incorrectly please educate me

I lease a 2004 530i and i have had this problem with the rear brakes screeching since i got the car in october of 2004. I have taken the car in on 4 separate occassions and the service folks have been very helpful but they cannot seem to solve the problem. At first they thouhgt the sensors were to close and they modified them to no avail. Then the service folks tried driving the car and conducting "panic stops" to remove the "glaze" from the brakes. This alleviated the problem for a while but it reared it's ugly head again.
I am curious to know if any one else has experienced this.

The service folks were almost on the right track when they took your car out for some agressive braking. They just didn't do it hard enough. You need to "bed" your brakes to get them to quiet down. The process is described on my web site: http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

I'm willing to bet this will cure your squeaky brake problem.

I think there is a TSB on this subject. Call your service advisor and have him check. Something about a part rubbing on the rotor.

If agressive stopping by the service tech reduced the problem, then it's related to bedding and not a part rubbing on the rotor. If the screeching happens all the time, independent of braking, or if it happens on hard left or right turns (again, independent of braking) then it's a mechanical problem and may be covered by this TSB.

If anyone can find it, the text of this TSB would be useful.
