V8 sports sedan comparo in Road&Track

I was expecting this comparo of V8 sports sedans with new M45 and GS 430 hitting the market. Too bad they didn't include E500 and A6 4.2 in the test.

BMW scored the highest in 11 categories, Infiniti in 5 and Lexus in 3 so how the hell did bimmer lose here?
Well, the price independent total includes scores for interior and exterior styling and this is where 545i got slammed, scores almost 30% lower than competition pretty much killed it.
They scored Lexus as the best looking of the bunch with M45 a close second! GS is to me simply too plain, Infiniti is a much better, I'd say on par with BMW.

It's a lousy comparo, they should adjust their scales depending on what type of cars they test. When you're looking for a sports sedan you want great driving experience, engine, gearbox, brakes, steering and handling and R&T shows that max 20pts can be awarded in each category. Then they award max 15pts in exterior and interior categories but we're not talking about boulevard cruisers or luxo limos! It should be more like max 10 points.

If it wasn't for the pics of Pagani Zonda roadster I'd throw this rag immediately.

True, Lexus in IMO is really ugly. I like the M45, it also sounds great. I think the 545i should have been on top.

The article was helpful for me. The 545i came out on top on issues that I'm not all that capable of testing myself -- such as handling issues. I can't test drive each model and put them thru the paces the way those testers can. So I rely on them for that stuff.

As to styling, interiors, controls, etc., I am perfectly capable of making my own judgment on those things. A magazine reviewer is more competent than me to assess handling at the limits, braking distance, etc., but is much less competent than me at assessing what styling *I* like.

So I drive the car that won for me -- the 545i!

Ah, yes...subjective qualities....

Yes. 2005 has more wood.
