gunked up radiator TECH ADVICE NEEDED (long story)

i just bought a bmw and realized it was have cooling issues i was going to start with the termostate, i have not changed it because it has been done in the last 1000 miles. (i know it COULD be broke) but i just figured i would flush and fill the radiator and engine but when i took it apart the A/C condensor, radiator, and trans cooler were caked in oil/dirt combo. i am not sure if it is leaking. i drove the car about 650 miles home and the oil was never low, so i think the leak occured before and was fixed but never cleaned. the car was cool all the way home (99% freeway) but in the city it overheats quickly. (less then five minutes)

i think the radiator is about 80% gunked up and once i clean it, it will solve my problems. the coolant looked pretty good, the oil too. i am just trying to do all of the fluids now so i know exactly whats been done and when.

i figured i would degrease and lightly pressure wash the rad/cond/trans cooler. any better ways to clean it? any suggestions would be great. i figured the best thing to do would be clean it all up and look for possible leaks down the line.

if it's that badly gunked up, why not buy a used radiator?

why buy another when the core is insides are fine. they flushed easy, and the fluid looked good. has anyone else expereicnced this? i figure i will clean it all, and then see if a leak occures, then deal with it.

My E30 doesn't like traffic either, gets hot quickly but also cools rapidly as soon as I start going. I have been planning on cleaning my radiator as well, already did the flush and seem to have good flow.
