 anyone ever heard of this?

My friend has been going on about a car he is building, V-8, 300 horses. (I think it was a Monte Carlo he’s supping up not sure though)

And how he is going to smoke me.

Whatever.

Anyway he told me he is going to use a "slam shift" transmission.

What the hell is that? Have any of you ever heard of it?

That means he couldn't afford a clutch.

V-8 Chevy and only 300 horses? Call him a wimp at anything under 400 hp.

Slam shift? Never heard of it, and couldn't find anything on Google either. He probably just means an auto trans with a drag-race style racket shifter. I have one in my '68 Camaro. I doubt he means a manual transmission that allows clutchless upshifts, as those then to be expensive, not suited for the street, and not needed for only 300 hp.

Wow, I haven't heard that term in about 10 years. IIRC it was used on muscle cars so they could shift without a clutch. It didn't have the normal H pattern but was straight up and straight back. I'll see if I can find a photo. I am surprised they are still in production.

It may refer to the old Hurst Shifters. They had three levers, one for each gear. You just pulled the lever for the next gear.
