Hp Calculation Methods......
http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=384913
This is interesting. For the 06 acuras they adopted a new standardized way of measuring horsepower (basically measure it now at the crank as a stand alone engine but with all accessories and exhaust attached). The article above kind of references that. The TL was rated at 270 HP but under this new method is only 258. I wonder what method BMW uses. This is starting to make a lot of sense on why the 225 HP 330i is just as quick as the TL. HP numbers are closer than we all thought. So much for marketing.............

I'm trying to find it, but when I looked it up earlier this year I noticed the following... the test was going to be with all the attached equipment, including exhaust. This was going to make a difference here in the US but not in some countries since it was always done that way. Since BMW rates the engine hp the same throughout the world, I'm guessing they figured it in already.
Interesting... 330i -- 255 hp vs. TL -- 258 hp.
Just a thought.

| | Reply » Hp Calculation Methods...... | All cCars in the US have used SAE Net HP since the early 70s. Net required certain accessories hooked up to the stand alone engine.
Prior to that they used SAE Gross HP, which was a bare engine, wihtout ANY accessories, no air filter, no water pump, etc.
SAE changes it standards every so often, and for 06 cars, they have added a couple of things to the SAE Net measurement method. For one, additional backpressure on teh exhaust side to simulate a full exhaust.
