I am considering buying a 1997 328is with 120,000 miles but that seems like alot of miles and I wonder how reliable that car would be. does anybody have any suggestions or comments?????

Moved to the E36 (the chassis of the car you are looking to buy) forum. Someone can give you real world information in here.

I would say that 120 isn't that bad.

I would agree. The so-called "reliable performance period" extends well beyond
120k mi. The better question is perhaps is whether the price:value ratio is
in line.

My '97 328is has 143,000 miles on it and seems to be OK but I have had it around a month.

I bought mine at 117,000, oil changed every 3,000-4,000 miles and paid $6,500, though I searched agressively for about two months so I know I got a deal. It is a awsome machine. You'll see other threads discussing the criteria for buying a used BMW and the main issue seems to be how often the oil was changed. An original owner who had it serviced by either BMW or a BMW trained service center should help you build some confidence.
