Help: Lexus IS200, BMW 320d or Alfa 156 V6 for company car?
A buddy has these are choices for a company car in Europe, and has no clue, so he asked my help - what do you guys think?
Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 (193 hp) Audi A4 2.4 V6 BMW 320d (150 hp diesel) Lexus IS 200 (155 hp inline six)
What would you guys choose? I've driven a 320d four years ago, and wasn't very impressed - redline is like 4500 rpm, it was slow and the car is just not that sporty. I think the engine has improved since then though. The Alfa would be the fastest by far, and the V6 sounds sweet, but I drove a 156 once and the brakes, shifter and stuff all kinda suck. IS200 would be the sportiest, but kinda slow (0-60 in 9 sec). I think I'd choose the Alfa or the IS200.

I assume that since he has a choice of cars that the company is simply giving him an allowance which must cover car, insurance, gas & maintenance.
If the car will be drivien daily and accumulate a lot of miles quickly than I would choose the most reliable car I could get my hands on...Probably the Lexus.
If the car is simply a nice perq and won't be pressed into heavy use than I would pick Audi or the Alfa or possibly the BMW but I am not a big fan of low end diesels.

I told him to get the Alfa, cause it's so much faster than the other cars, and has a sweet sounding Italian engine. If you're a handling purist I'd get the IS200 maybe, but it's kinda slow (0-60 in like 9 sec).

On the other hand, if he could convince his boss for a low opted 330d, it might be the best of the two worlds, both performance and fuel efficiency.
My daily ride is a 320d (facelift), I am very happy with it, no problems till yet.
He might also consider the Audi A4, can't go wrong with it too.

Otherwise? The 320d, no doubt. The Lexus isn't really worth consideration considering what the others can provide (unless he *must* have an inline six for whatever reason), and the Alfa will fall apart quicker than you think, even given Alfa's better reputation for reliability.
You don't say where your friend is in Europe (25 countries, 460m people ). The 320d spec will vary from acceptable to unacceptable, depending on country. If you have to throw another E5k at the car to give it the right equipment... try the Alfa and cross your fingers .
