Friday night my wife's '01 330i suffered a blowout on the freeway.
She had a service company come out and put on the spare which is in pretty good shape. Saturday, I got two new tires for the rear, kept the spare on the front left, and moved the better old rear tire to the front right making the old front right the spare.
Later on Saturday we drove to a hiking trailhead. There is a twisty, newly paved asphault road there that climbs about 3000'.
After clearing some backmarkers I was able to enjoy some spirited driving. But while I exited the sharpest right-hander there was a noise and feeling that came from the left front that seemed like an 18-Wheeler's Jake Brake. I let off and it went away, stomped on it and it came back. My first thought was, "Oh no, I shredded the spare."
My wife thinks I may have caught the lane edge with the right tire. It wasn't until later that I thought of stability control. I didn't notice the light on the dash, but with the steering wheel in full lock to the right it was probably blocked from view.
So was it DSC? I've never had it activate in an understeer condition so I have no frame of reference.
